Do You Feel Like You’re Drowning in the Storms of Your Life?

In the last month or so, in Omaha, we had storms with ninety and seventy miles an hour straight line wind. If you live on the coast, you may not be familiar with this term; these winds are something like hurricane winds. In the first storm where we had higher winds, the city lost many old, established trees. In the second storm, the city didn’t lose trees but had a flood which did great water damage. We were one of these casualties but caught it quickly – thank the Lord! There were even young people downtown who were trapped in an elevator with water up to their necks. Thank God they didn’t drown!

Do you feel like you are drowning in the storms in your life? I feel like it at times. The world is a crazy place with Covid, the Delta Variant, the CDC saying one thing and then another, lockdowns, masks, and now whether to get the vax or not get the vax. I’m not saying to not stand up for what you believe. I do - but being mad at someone because they believe something different than you do is separating people instead of bringing them together. No matter what side you are on socially, spiritually, physically, mentally, or emotionally – there is one thing that Scripture says: “The thief [The Devil] comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy [hate]. I [Jesus] came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows) [love]” (John 10:10 AMPC).

Don’t let the Devil separate us. We are better together. He wants to separate us from our families, our church families, our homies, and our neighbors. He hates us and our loved ones. Jesus wants us to love each other. Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matt. 22:37-29). His Word says, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8). Don’t let Satan have the upper hand. I don’t want to do the work of the enemy and hate. I want to love. How about you?
