What do you do when it seems like all hell has broken loose? One of the things that I do is relaxation techniques. I also look for a Scripture and breathe in for 8 and hold it for 2 and breathe out 8 and speak a Bible verse such as, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you. (Isaiah 26:3). Then hold it for two and repeat.
I sometimes call a friend who I can trust and tell them what is going on and they help to pull me off the ledge by listening to me and guiding me back to the Lord. Praise is another way to defeat the enemy who is trying to stop me in my tracks. Jehoshaphat appointed men to march in front of the army by singing praises to the Lord and the Lord confused the enemy camp and they wiped themselves out (2 Chronicles 20:20-22).
Another way to defeat the enemy is by taking a vacation and getting away with no plans in mind, which is a fantastic way to leave those cares behind. Getting a Mani/Pedi, going for a walk, spending time in the Word, going to lunch with a friend, petting and playing with your cat/dog, writing a letter to God in one colored pen, and having God answer back with His Word in another colored pen, and going for a picnic in the park are a few ways to let off steam.
I cannot keep that steam in, or I will really blow my top and then I will have sinned and must repent to God and another human being. I must recognize that my feelings are valid, and they tell me something about what I am thinking. When I know my thoughts, then I can counterbalance them with the Word of God. This is the way I keep my mind focused on God instead of the hell that has broken loose.
Feel free to tell me how you release stress. I am also willing to share relaxation techniques and Bible passages with you. Just ask!
